Was Kazakhstan once known as Turkestan? Posted: 22 Nov 05 12:06 AM (N/A) |

My father was born in Turkestan in 1922. I was advised that his family fled war and ended up in Peking along with many other white Russians. I would like to visit my father's birthplace and am assuming that Turkestan was in fact re-named Kazakhstan at some stage. Would this be correct? Is anyone aware of how I might track down my father's village?

| Turkestan is a region of Central Asia that does include parts of Kazakhstan, but also Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Perhaps Google Earth software can help you in your undertaking. Best of luck. |
